What is Islam?

Allah the Exalted said, "And whoever takes other than Islam as a religion, it will never be accepted from him, and he will be in the Hereafter - from the losers." [Qur'an 3:85] Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen, A scholar of Islam said: The Religion of Islam is the religion which Allah sent Muhammad (peace be upon him) with. Allah abrogated with it all other religions, and perfected it for His slaves, and completed with it His favour upon them, and chose it for them as a religion. So no religion besides it will be accepted. Allah the Exalted said, "Muhammad is not a father from any of your men, rather he is the Messenger of Allah, and the last of the prophets." [Qur'an 7:40]

Islam (site under construction for next few hours - please forgive us)
Islam (what it is?) - "Islam" means (surrender; submission; obedience; peace)
Islam is a verb and a noun at the same time.
The first meaning of "Islam" is from the root "aslama" (a verb), meaning to: "surrender; submit; obey; sincerity and in peace."

The second meaning of "Islam" is the noun form, and it describes the last and final form of the way of life as perscribed by the Creator for His Creation.

"Islam" can be understood in a very general sense to be the true religion of God, as it is from Him and according to His commandments without adding to or taking away from the basic precepts.
